Search on for two robbery suspects

A manhunt for two robbery suspects continued late Monday after a vehicle chase ended near an Addison-area forest preserve.

At 1:14 p.m., four armed suspects robbed a jewelry store at 1630 N. Mannheim Road in Stone Park, Stone Park Police Chief Giuseppe "Joe" Capece said.

Police got the suspect's vehicle information and started the pursuit soon after the robbery, he said. Police chased the suspects through Wood Dale and into Addison when the offender's vehicle hit a tree near Oak Meadows and Wood Dale Road, where the suspects bailed out, Capece said.

Melrose Park police caught one suspect, and another was caught shortly after by Stone Park police, he said.

Several police agencies were searching for two other suspects who were believed to have fled into Wood Dale Grove Forest Preserve late Monday.

Police said one of the wanted suspects is about 6-feet tall with a heavy build and is nicknamed "Spook", DuPage County sheriff's police said.

Stretches of Wood Dale Road near the forest preserve were closed while police searched for the suspects.

Police from Wood Dale, Addison, the DuPage County forest district, Melrose Park and the DuPage County sheriff's office searched the forest preserve with dogs. Police also searched the area by helicopter while it was still light out, Capece said.

"If it wasn't for these agencies, I don't think we would be doing what we're doing right now," Capece said.

One of the owners of the jewelry store suffered minor injuries from the robbery, and one of the suspects was hospitalized with minor injuries after the vehicle crashed into the tree, he said.
