Homes going on the auction block Sept. 26

The suggested opening bid for this 4,125-square-foot custom home in McHenry is $250,000.

Sheldon Good & Company Auctions LLC is inviting buyers to name their price on a 4,125-square-foot, single-family home in McHenry's Martin Wood neighborhood; a 3,600-square-foot lakefront co-op in Chicago; and a single-family home in Willowbrook, on a half-acre of land.

Each property will be offered for sale at an auction, scheduled for Sept. 26 at the Chicago Marriott O'Hare, 8535 W. Higgins Road, Chicago. Registration is at 6 p.m., and the auction begins at 7 p.m., announced Steven L. Good, chairman & CEO of the Chicago-based real estate services firm. The auction will follow an open out-cry format.

Estate home in McHenry

The 4,125-square-foot, single-family home in McHenry's Martin Wood neighborhood is custom-built and features four bedrooms, 3½ baths and a three-car garage.

"This estate's Classic American-style exterior meshes nicely with its graciously proportioned, richly detailed interior," said Good.

The home's open floor plan is accentuated by a granite fireplace in the living room, a den, with direct access to a private rear deck, and Brazilian cherry hardwood floors throughout. An oversized, granite-topped, multi-level center island with breakfast bar is the highlight of the kitchen, which also includes custom cherry cabinetry and a large eat-in area.

Stand-out features of the home's second level include custom French doors leading to a master suite with cathedral ceilings, two skylights and a granite fireplace.
