Author to discuss leading a healthy lifestyle

Community Unit School District 200 and McHenry County Health Department will host author and motivational speaker Robert Sweetgall.

Sweetgall will bring his message of wellness through walking and active living at 7 p.m. Aug. 30 in the Learning Resource Center at Woodstock High School, 501 W. South St., Woodstock.

Motivated by a family history of heart disease, Sweetgall gave up his job as a chemical engineer at DuPont to inspire others toward a healthier lifestyle. He has walked across America seven times and logged 11,208 miles through all 50 states in one year.

Prior to the 7 p.m. presentation, Sweetgall will lead a community "sunset stride" through Emricson Park, Route 14 and Kishwaukee Valley Road, at 6 p.m. to demonstrate the Nordic Walking technique.

The technique is effective as a total body workout to improve cardiovascular capacity, burn more calories and reduce stress on hips, knees, feet and ankles.

The public is encouraged to attend. For details, call Meaghan Haak at (815) 334-4510 or District 200 Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning at (815) 334-3410.
