Police beat: Man charged with shoplifting

Algonquin

•A Lake in the Hills man was accused of shoplifting at 11 p.m. Thursday at Meijer, 400 S. Randall Road, police said. Charles Volstorff, 34, of 2971 Hillsboro Lane, was charged with retail theft, police said. Volstorff posted a $100 bond and has a court date in Woodstock on Oct. 17.

•A Lake in the Hills man was accused of drunken driving at 1:15 a.m. Friday at Williamsburg Lane and Boyer Road, police said. Nathaniel Bonham, 32, of 15 Pershing Ave., was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and improper lane use, police said. Bonham posted $100 and his driver's license and has a Sept. 19 court date in Woodstock.

Carpentersville

•A Carpentersville woman was accused of attacking a man with a knife, leaving a six-inch gash on his right forearm, and throwing bleach on him, police said. Shelley M. Hughley, 52, of 4809 Cedarledge Court, was charged with aggravated domestic battery, domestic battery and two counts of resisting a police officer, police said. The victim and Hughley were taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin, where they were treated and released. Hughley posted a $7,500 bond and has a Sept. 5 court date.

Elgin

•An Elgin man was accused Thursday of driving under the influence of drugs at 3:45 a.m. at Douglas Avenue and Franklin Boulevard, police said. Anthony A. Baugus, 27, of 621 Harrison St., Elgin was charged with possession of a controlled substance after a small amount of cocaine was found and was cited for driving under the influence and driving while license suspended, police said. Deanne Holland, 40, of 267 Douglas Ave., Elgin, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, police said. Baugus was unable to post a $3,000 bond and was taken to the Kane County jail. Holland posted a $500 bond. Both have court dates on Sept. 4 at the Kane County Judicial Center.

•An Elgin man punched a police squad car at 9 p.m. Thursday on North State Street, about 300 feet north of Lawrence Avenue, police said. The man then made a motion as if he was reaching for a handgun in his waistband, police said. L.A. Dunigan, 33, of 435 Harrison St., Elgin, was charged with assault, police said. Dunigan was released on recognizance with a Sept. 10 date at Elgin Branch court.

•An auto dealership reported that $4,600 was stolen from an envelope in their safe. The case has been turned over to the major investigations division of the Elgin Police Department.

•Burglars took two television sets, a DVD player, a CD/stereo, a glass jar with coins, a jewelry box and an unknown amount of jewelry between 7 and 11 a.m. Wednesday from a home on the 1900 block of Stanford Court.
