Now's the time to enroll your little one in preschool in Lake in the Hills

The Lake in the Hills Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registration for its new fall preschool classes.

And for the remainder of the month of August, Casie Peltz, recreation supervisor, says the department will waive the $50 registration fee.

The new programs offer traditional preschool classes for 3- to 4-year-olds who will enter kindergarten in August 2009, and 4- to 5-year-olds who will begin kindergarten in August 2008.

Classes, which begin the first week of September and run through May, are held at the Indian Trail Beach House, 228 Indian Trail Drive.

Classes for the 3- and 4-year-olds are $125 per month; they're $150 per month for the older group.

Preschool for 3- and 4-year-olds is Tuesday and Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. or 1 to 3 p.m. The 4- and 5-year-old classes are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. or 12:30 to 3 p.m. Classes begin on Sept. 6 and 7, respectively.

Children ages 3 and 4 will be involved in hands-on activities, group time, games and instructional activities, according to the department's summer brochure. Class parties and season-appropriate field trips will also be part of the fun and educational class.

Meanwhile, 4- and 5-year-olds will gain the necessary skills and confidence for success in future classrooms, the brochure said.

Class size is about 10 students to one teacher. The two teachers have at least an associate's degree and a minimum of six years' experience.

In addition to the traditional morning preschool classes, Peltz says the department also will offer such classes as a kindergarten-ready class where children learn things like letters and sounds, or social activities like the "lunch bunch."

Registration is taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. Parents are asked to provide a copy of the child's birth certificate, immunization and physical records (dated no more than six months ago), and a recent photo. These items will not be returned.

If space is available once classes begin, the village will accept registrants. For information or to register, call Casie Peltz at (847) 960-7463.
