District 59 honored for financial reporting excellence

Elk Grove Township Elementary District 59 recently won the Association of School Business Officials International's Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting.

It was for excellence in the preparation of its 2006 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.

It is the 24th consecutive certificate of excellence award that District 59 has received.

The program was designed by the association to enable school business officials to achieve a high standard of financial reporting.

The award is the highest recognition for school district financial operations offered by association.

It is only given to school districts that have met or exceeded the standards of the program.

By preparing and presenting a certificate, District 59 validated the credibility of the school system's operations, measured the integrity and technical competence of the business staff, assisted in strengthening its presentations for bond issuance statements, and provided professional recognition, district officials said.

"Participation in the Certificate of Excellence Program demonstrates our commitment to excellence," said Ruth Gloede, assistant superintendent for business services in a prepared statement from the district. "We our proud to have attained this special recognition."

Volunteers needed: The Resale Shop, which is an important fundraiser for the work of the Kenneth Young Center in Elk Grove Village, is looking for people to help.

According to Kenneth Young officials, the shop is a wonderful place to do good, make friends and get first dibs on interesting merchandise at 1150 S. Roselle Road in Schaumburg.

It's great for couples and families, high school volunteers seeking credits and retired people.

There are openings at the shop from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday evenings.

You can volunteer once a week or every other week.

The center also needs cashiers and people willing to come in work on displays.
