Briefs: Aurora road closure
Aurora road closure
Kautz Road will be closed to all traffic between Westridge Drive and Clarendon Lane in Aurora now through Aug. 30 and between Clarendon Lane and Waubonsee Lake Park Driveway until the completion of the Kautz Road realignment project. Waubonsee Lake Park will remain accessible by Kautz Road from Montgomery Road. The road closure facilitates the final construction stages of the realignment project, which started earlier this year. The improvement is a joint project by the Natures Glen subdivision developer and the city of Aurora.
Police check parolees
A five-hour joint operation between Aurora police and the Illinois Department of Corrections Thursday resulted in 17 men being brought into the police department to ensure they were in compliance with the conditions of their releases, officials said. Rael R. Gonzalez, 19, of the 100 block of N. Ohio St., was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis and cannabis possession with intent to deliver after officers said they found about 150 grams of marijuana in his home. Chavis Meeks, 22, of the 1100 block of Douglas Avenue, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, after police said they found a loaded handgun in his home. The 17 men were interviewed by corrections officials and submitted to a drug screening. The operation targeted the homes of 42 parolees, police said.
Lanes closed downtown
Partial lane closures will take place through Wednesday in downtown Aurora on Downer Place between Hoyt Place and River Street, on New York Street from River Street to Lake Street, and on Hoyt Place. In addition, Pinney Street will be closed to traffic during this period, officials said. Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible. The timeframe for street closures may be changed due to bad weather, officials say. The work is part of a large-scale infrastructure project to provide more sanitary sewer, storm sewer and water main capacity for downtown Aurora and the Fox River corridor.
Crash slows morning rush
No injuries were reported in a Thursday morning crash that slowed rush-hour traffic in West Chicago. An eastbound lane of North Avenue was closed between 7:30 and 8 a.m. after a car and pickup truck collided near the intersection of North Avenue and Powlis Road. Police said the crash happened when one of the vehicles attempted to turn left from North onto Powlis. No injuries were reported. The damaged vehicles had to be towed away.
