Florida man charged with assault at Fox Lake motel

A Florida man is in custody after being charged with sexually assaulting a woman during a party at the Marina Motel in Fox Lake.

Mario Sanchez Orozco, 26, most recently of Tampa Bay, Fla., is held in Lake County jail in lieu of $750,000 bond, Fox Lake Police Lt. Jeff Norris said.

The Lake County State's Attorney's office charged Orozco with one count of criminal sexual assault, a class 1 felony, and obstructing justice, a class 4 felony. If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison.

Norris said officers responded to a call at 147 S. Route 12 on July 25, to break up a verbal argument between a woman and a man.

The 19-year-old woman told police she had been sexually assaulted earlier at the Marina Motel, 123 S. Route 12, by a man she did not know. The person she was arguing with was her boyfriend, who did not believe the attack took place.

The woman said she attended a party at the motel involving several people. During the party, she said, she had fallen asleep on a bed in one of the rooms, and woke up in the middle of the night to find Orozco assaulting her.

The victim was transported to Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry for an examination, while police went to the Marine Motel and arrested Orozco.
