Murder trial date is set:
A trial date has been set for a Wheeling man accused of murder and aggravated kidnapping in the April 5, 2005, death of 23-year-old Arturo Cedillo of Mount Prospect. Bryan A. Gilzene, 23, 275 Oak Creek Drive, will stand trial at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 15 in room 207 of the Skokie branch of the circuit court of Cook County. Police say Cedillo was kidnapped from his Mount Prospect apartment at gunpoint and forced into the back seat of his car, and driven to Park Ridge, where he was found dead with a gunshot wound in his head. Gilzene had fled the Chicago area but was traced to Florida, where he was arrested Sept. 9 in North Miami, authorities said. Bail is set at $5 million.
Cop station to be razed:
Wednesday is scheduled as the day when Streamwood's former police station and village hall at 401 E. Irving Park Road will be demolished. The police department was still using the building until its move to the brand new, larger facility next door earlier this month. The old building opened in 1970, when it served both the police department and the village's general administration. The 1990 opening of today's village hall allowed the police department to take over the entirety of the old building. Even that became a strain on operations, however, until the new building's completion.
D. 57 budget may balance:
School board members in Mount Prospect Elementary District 57 discuss the upcoming budget at this week's committee of the whole meeting. It will be held 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the administration building, 701 W. Gregory St., Mount Prospect. At least one school board member said it looks as though the district will reach a balanced budget, a goal the district has been pursuing through such efforts as cutting programs and personnel.
Wine tasting is Thursday:
The Olive Tap of Long Grove and Vintner's Cellar Winery will co-host an "Olive Oil and Wine Tasting Evening" 7 p.m. Thursday at Vintner's Cellar, 529 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville. Chef Americo of Libertyville's Ristorante Bottaio will use olive oils from the Olive Tap to prepare hot and cold appetizers. Vintner's Cellar will discuss and serve the appropriate wines to pair with the menu. The cost is $35 per person. For information or reservations, call (847) 918-9463.
