All things Harry going on round town

Where will you be when "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" comes out at midnight? Here's a list of local options.

For the younger set

Prospect Heights: "Harry Potter Extravaganza," 2:30-4:30 p.m., Prospect Heights Public Library, 12 Elm St. First- to eighth graders. Sorting Hat assigns children to four houses. Quidditch-related activity, crafts, snacks. Free. Limit 40 children. www.phpl.info.

The witching hour

Mount Prospect: Grand Hallows Ball, Borders Books & Music, 909 N. Elmhurst Road. At 7:30 p.m. children age 7 and younger invited to "Kid's Karnival," games, crafts, activities and souvenirs. At 9:30 p.m. Ball begins, with music, costumes, activities and prizes: Potter spelling bee, Great Snape Debate and crowning the king and queen. Book sales at midnight. (847) 342.6421

Schaumburg: Midnight Magic Costume Party, starts at 7 p.m., Barnes & Noble, 590 E. Golf Road. Dress as your favorite character. Activities, prizes, photos and magic, including 7:30 p.m. magic show. Face painting, fortune telling, wand and golden snitch making. Magic show and character readings by Maine West High School Drama Club. Book sales at midnight. (847) 310-0450.

Schaumburg: Grand Hallows Ball, Borders Books & Music, 1540 E. Golf Road. Starts 9:30 p.m. Come in magical attire or your best muggle finery. Wheeling: An evening of Harry Potter at Indian Trails Public Library, 355 S. Schoenbeck Road, Wheeling. Starts at 9:30 p.m. with music from bands Revenge of Dawn and High Strung, followed by discussion with the musicians. Wizard chess, trivia contest; at midnight, reserved copies of book handed out.
