Sign up for Glacial Park Team Challenge, a noncompetitive recreational triathlon

There is still time to grab a friend or two for McHenry County Conservation District's popular Glacial Park Team Challenge, a noncompetitive biking, canoeing and off-trail hiking adventure from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at North Branch Conservation Area, 11500 N. Keystone Road, Richmond.

Teams need to be a minimum of two in this noncompetitive recreational triathlon that covers 14 miles by bike, five miles hiking and seven miles paddling.

Start at the North Branch Conservation Area with a light breakfast and a lesson on the ecosystems you will venture through during the event.

Participants must provide their own bicycles, but MCCD will provide canoeing or kayaking equipment. Refreshment and snack stands will be available along the course with adult refreshments at the end. All participants receive a Glacial Park Challenge hat to remember this momentous day. Information packets available after registration is processed.

The triathlon participants is for adults, 14 and older.

The registration and fee are required by Monday, May 7.

There are different watercraft options for the paddling section; be sure you and your teammates are registering under the listing for the watercraft you prefer. Spaces are still available for: single kayak, $70 for county resident, $85 for nonresident; tandem canoe, $50 for county resident, $63 for nonresident.

Register online at www.MCCDistrict.org or drop off the registration and fee at Prairieview Education Center, 2112 Behan Road in Crystal Lake, or Lost Valley Visitor Center, Route 31 and Harts Road in Ringwood.
