Waubonsee Valley Music Teachers Association to meet April 10
The Waubonsee Valley Illinois State Music Teachers Association's monthly program will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 27 S. Edgelawn Drive in Aurora. It will feature David Schrader in a program titled, "Playing, Composing, and Teaching: J.S. Bach's Approach to Pedagogy."
Schrader serves on the academic studies faculty of the Chicago College of the Performing Arts at Roosevelt University where he teaches course in music history and coaches chamber ensembles. He holds degrees (two Bachelor's of Music) from the University of Colorado College of Music and from Indiana University (Master of Music, Performer's Certificate, and Doctor of Music). His teachers include Storm Bull, Abbey Simon, Oswald Ragatz, Anthony Newman, and others.
Schrader has soloed with many orchestras in the United States, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. In Canada, he has also been a soloist with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. He has performed also in England, Italy, Germany, Japan, and Mexico.
He has been heard frequently on WFMT Radio and has recorded for the London, CRI, Crest, Centaur, and, most notably, Chicago's own Cedille Records.
Schrader is a founding member of the Rembrandt Chamber Players and Baroque Band. He has played with Music of the Baroque, the Newberry Consort, and with Trio Settecento. In May 2018, he will perform the six sonatas for organ by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, among other events.
