New writing class aims to turn hobbyist into serious writer

Turn your love of writing into something great. Learn how to transform your hobby into becoming a legitimate writer with a "Be a Serious Writer," a new noncredit class offered by McHenry County College's Continuing Education Department.

Be a Serious Writer will teach people how to take their writing as a hobby for personal fulfillment to a new level by learning how to become a serious writer and share their work with others. Participants will learn how to structure their writing, how to improve efficiency, the pros and cons of self-publishing versus traditional publishing, and the elements of an author's platform. Also included is the opportunity to participate in online and group critiques. This class meets every other week to allow time to practice the areas covered in class.

This class takes place from 7 To 8:50 p.m. every other Wednesday beginning Feb. 7 through April 18 in Room C118 at MCC, 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.

Cost is $49. To register for this class, use course code NWT S52 001.
