Health department offers wellness screenings

The McHenry County Department of Health has scheduled two reduced cost wellness screenings for January. During the remainder of this month, for a $10 fee, participants can schedule a wellness and health screening appointment online at www.mcdh.info.

The screening includes a cholesterol and blood sugar check for the $10 fee. Additionally, heart age, blood pressure checks and body mass analysis screenings are included free. Tests are non-fasting and private with results available immediately. Test results will be given to clients so they may share them with their doctor. An educational consultation is included.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 71 million American adults are living with high LDL cholesterol which can lead to heart disease, the leading cause of death in the United States. The National Cholesterol Education Program recommends that adults get their cholesterol checked at least every 5 years. The CDC also states that one out of 11 people are living with diabetes and many are undiagnosed. Knowledge is power. Keep your numbers within a healthy range and greatly improve your heart health, as well as reduce your risk for chronic disease.

Health and Wellness Screenings for $10 are available at the following locations, dates, and times:

• 8 to 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, at the Woodstock Recreational Center, 220 Lake Ave., Woodstock.

• 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at the Sage YMCA, 701 Manor Road, Crystal Lake.

Schedule your appointment by visiting the MCDH website at www.mcdh.info, or calling (815) 334-4510.
