Explore the life, culture of the Metis Sept. 24

McHenry County Conservation District invites all ages for an engaging exploration into a culture of our region's past at the "Life of the Metis" from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, at Prairieview Education Center, 2112 Behan Road, Crystal Lake.

Metis villages were places where the lives and the cultures of the French Canadian traders and the Native Americans who lived in this area in the 1600s became intertwined. Celebrate this culture by attending for this special event. Visit the inside of the wigwam where you will discover artifacts of the Metis lifestyle and learn about some of their customs. Try your hand at weaving a cattail mat on our loom and make a clay pinch pot to take home. Sample snacks and listen to stories and the haunting sound of the Native American flute.

Stop by for a little while, or stay for the whole afternoon. No registration is required. For information, call Prairieview Education Center, (815) 479-5779 or visit www.MCCDistrict.org.
