MCCD to host 'Sunset Soiree and BBQ' Sept. 22

Spend an autumn evening enjoying supper, a guided sunset stroll and songs under the stars at McHenry County Conservation District's "Sunset Soiree and BBQ" from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at Pleasant Valley Conservation Area, 13315 Pleasant Valley Road, Woodstock.

Surrounded by the beautiful prairie flowers and grasses, and tucked within a grove of oaks, attendees will begin the evening with a meal from BBQ King Smokehouse, an award-winning Woodstock restaurant.

Dinner is followed by a leisurely naturalist-led hike through the stunning fall prairie and savanna habitats, where information on the flora and fauna, as well as site history is shared. They will finish up the evening around the campfire with acoustic music from Cheryl Niemo and the Down Home Boys.

Bring a lawn chair to relax in by the fire. Nonalcoholic beverages are provided however; alcohol is permitted for participants age 21 and older, bring your own. No glass containers will be allowed.

Registration and the fee are required by Monday, Sept. 18. This "Just for Adults" program for ages 14 and older, is $25 for county residents and $30 for nonresidents.

Register online at www.MCCDistrict.org, by walk-in at Prairieview Education Center, 2112 Behan Road in Crystal Lake, or drop-off only at Lost Valley Visitor Center, Route 31 and Harts Road in Ringwood.
