Mixology Salon to host Mutual Ground's 'Survivors' Art Show' Aug. 11
Mutual Ground Inc. will host its "Survivors' Art Show" from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at Mixology Salon, 116 W. Main St. in St. Charles.
This inspirational and educational event is free and open to the public.
The show will exhibit art created by Mutual Ground's clients and art contributed by community artists interested in supporting the nonprofit organization and raising awareness around sexual assault and abuse issues.
The art show focuses on a theme designed to speak to a survivor's experience. The artists displayed in this show were asked to use a medium of their choice to visually capture the complex process of healing. Artists were encouraged to try and illustrate the wide range of emotions related to a survivor's healing journey.
"Healing can feel both uplifting and painfully raw. It can be frustrating with a person feeling that they take one step forward to only take two back," said Amy Medlin, sexual assault program coordinator. "It can also be freeing, an opportunity to redefine who you are or who you want to be - it is complex. Our hope is that these artists will be able to visually capture the complexity of this process."
"We hope that displaying this art at Mixology will bring awareness to the fact that Mutual Ground is here to help any man, woman or child in the Tri-Cities area and beyond that has been affected by sexual violence," said Michelle Meyer, executive director of Mutual Ground. "We are here to support these individuals on their road to healing and want them to know that they are not alone."
The art exhibit also will include a silent art auction and raffle with all proceeds directly benefiting Mutual Ground.
