Hampshire VFW auxiliary honors longtime member

At the July meeting, the Hampshire Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8043 honored Arlene Reiser for her 60-plus years of membership, as well as having served as secretary, treasurer and president over the years. She also regularly attended district meetings, volunteered in the community and at the hospital. Reiser received a citation of achievement, decorated cake and flowers.

Fifth District President Barbara Klapperich presented her with the VFW Auxiliary Volunteer pin.

Also during the meeting, there was a moment of silence to remember Mary Seyller Kastning who served as auxiliary president in 1969-70 on her recent passing.

At a recent Fifth District VFW Auxiliary meeting, the Hampshire auxiliary was given a second-place award for their book of 2016 programs and received monetary donation and a red, white and blue wreath presented by Klapperich. The auxiliary was surprised and pleased to receive these awards.

The auxiliary members will be helping the post members at the annual Coon Creek Country Days, Burlington Fall Fest, and the VETS 700 fundraiser for scholarships and veteran programs.

The auxiliary is starting a membership drive for the coming year. For eligibility requirements for new or transferred members, call Arlene Reiser at (847) 683-3443.

The auxiliary will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at the Hampshire Township administration building, 170 Mill Ave. All are welcome.
