The Wheaton Municipal Band embarks on a Musical Voyage

The Wheaton Municipal Band presents an evening of Music devoted to Explorers and Explorations. The band travels to unique musical realms on Thursday, July 13 at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Park in Downtown Wheaton.. Every concert, music director Dr. Bruce Moss focuses on a theme to select a program of music to delight the audience. This week the selections are inspiring, upbeat and unique.

The concert focuses on music that shows courage, determination and conviction. Who better to tap into the brave spirit than John Williams, with his wonderful music from "The Cowboys." This John Wayne Western came alive with William's vivid and intricate score. Also programmed for the evening are "Yosemite Autumn" by Mark Camphouse, "Through Countless Halls of Air" by Frances McBeth, "Short Ride in a Fast Machine" by John Adams and "From Maine to Oregon" by Sousa.

The featured soloist for the evening is Dr. John Mueller, retired performer with the U.S. Army Band in Washington D.C. and professor of Trombone and Euphonium at the University of Memphis. Mueller is also a Wheaton Municipal Band Alum. He will be performing on both the Trombone and Euphonium. In demand as a soloist, clinician, and adjudicator throughout the US, Mueller has also performed and given master classes in Japan, Australia, Brazil, and Europe. The Wheaton Municipal Band is thrilled to welcome Dr. Mueller to the stage.

An audience member last week asked, "How do you musicians do it?" "You only have one rehearsal and you play so many notes." The Wheaton Municipal Band members are top caliber musicians and incredible sight readers. Their challenge weekly is to perform music on short order and do it masterfully. And each week they rise to the challenge. Come hear this amazing group.
