East Dundee Depot Market opens May 13

Opening day for the popular Depot Market is 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at The Depot, located next to the bike trail at 319 N. River St. in East Dundee. The weekly Saturday market has been held at the Depot (aka the Dundee Township Visitor's Center) May through October for the past 25-plus years.

Starting in May, Depot hours will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays.

The Saturday Depot Market is a popular social outlet and typically features over 40 vendors each week selling antiques, jewelry and collectibles, plus locally grown produce (in season), bedding plants and flowers, baked goods, yard and garden items, natural pet food, and more.

Food vendors will include Ruthella's New Orleans Cuisine featuring shrimp and grits, beans and rice, jambalaya and gumbo, and Po-boy sandwiches, to name a few, and Duke's BBQ featuring grilled ribs, beef tips, pulled pork, and more. Watch for the annual Crawfish Boil May 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Depot.

Depot visitors can pick up a variety of free bike-trail maps and information about area restaurants, attractions, and the 60-mile Fox River Bicycle Trail, plus the all-volunteer board of directors offers Dundee-themed merchandise for sale, including Fox River Trail T-shirts, Depot tote bags, and Dundee history books.

The Dundee Township Visitor's Center is partially funded with donations and booth fees from the Depot Market. Funds raised go toward an annual scholarship that is awarded each spring through the Dundee Township Rotary Club.

"Our motto is 'Something for everyone'," Bill Zelsdorf said, adding that new vendors are always welcome. For more information about Saturday vendor space, visit www.dundeedepot.com or call Zelsdorf at (847) 426-4307.

The East Dundee's Sunday food market, Motor Mondays, wine and beer tasting, and other special events also will continue this summer. The village's Sunday market runs June 11-Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For Sunday market or event information, call Kelly at (224) 325-1065.
