St. Thomas More's Lenten project supports Hope for Haitians

St. Thomas More Parish in Elgin has been a blessing to the poorest of poor in Haiti over the past several years, funding programs that help to change the lives of thousands of Haitians.

This Lent, the parish again worked with Hope For Haitians in the Rockford Diocese to improve the quality of life for the people living in Haiti who are suffering in extreme poverty.

In addition to the funds the Elgin parish raised, so much credit must go to the St. Thomas More school students and to the students in the after-school religious education program.

Since education is valued as an opportunity to succeed, the children in the villages of Haiti that were funded by Hope For Haitians were given that opportunity for an education.

This year, the parish students focused on collecting donations for the education of Haitian students. $125 per student covers the cost of school books, a school uniform, and one hot meal a day for the entire year. What a gift it is to support a child through education!

The parish students raised more than enough monies to support the education of four students, truly making a difference in the lives of these children in Haiti.

A sincere thank you goes to the students of St. Thomas More Parish for their efforts and their own charitable giving to these poor Haiti children. May God bless them always as well as the children in Haiti.
