Kane County Fair adds wine-tasting, gambling to offerings
Corrected "June" to "July" in lede and caption
The 150th annual, consecutive Kane County Fair opens Wednesday, July 18.
But just because it is old doesn't mean it is stuck in its ways.
It has new offerings this year.
• A car show on Saturday and Sunday
• Bingo and pull-tab gambling Friday, Saturday and Sunday
• A wine-tasting garden
• The "Dairies to Prairies" exhibit featuring a documentary film about the history of the dairy industry in Kane County.
The celebration of Kane County's agriculture and domestic arts is open from 3 to 11 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday; noon to midnight Friday and Saturday; and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday.
In its barns, you can see up close the livestock, pets and poultry that members of Kane County 4-H Clubs have raised. The horse barns are full of contestants for 4-H equestrian competitions. And in an exhibition hall, 4-H members display their home economic, computer, crafts and other projects, which were judged earlier in the week.
In the grandstand arena, you can watch a monster truck show Thursday night, bull-riding Friday and Saturday nights, and a demolition derby twice on Sunday. For music, head over to the Miller Lite Sound Stage. It features radio personality Eddie Volkman at 5 p.m. Thursday and country singer Eric Chesser at 7 p.m. that night. On Friday, Hi Infidelity performs at 7:30 p.m.; Hillbilly Rockstarz plays at 8 p.m. Saturday; and 7th heaven performs at 7 p.m. Sunday.
The midway carnival rides are separate charges. You can also buy $20 all-you-can-ride passes that are good in the afternoons, not the evenings.
