Forest Preserve programs help preschoolers explore the natural world

Hibernators, rain and flowers will be the themes for spring's preschooler nature programs by the Forest Preserve District of Kane County. On Thursday, March 23, "Wake Up, Hibernators" will be the theme. It will be followed on Thursday, April 27, with "Why Does It Rain?" On Thursday, May 25, the theme will be "Flower Power."

• In "Nature Tykes," 3-year-olds explore the natural world through a variety of activities with their parent or caregiver. Sessions include a combination of stories, nature hikes, songs, games and crafts. These programs run from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Creek Bend Nature Center. Registration is $5 per child, per session.

• "Little Naturalists" is the Forest Preserve District's hourlong program for 4-year-olds. Children will discover the wonders of nature through a variety of activities including songs, hikes, stories, games and crafts. This program is for the young participants. Parents, caregivers and siblings may enjoy the trails of LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, or wait inside the nature center, during the program.

The programs run from 1 to 2 p.m. at Creek Bend Nature Center. Registration is $5 per child, per session.
