Cary Park District launches its fall programs

The Cary Park District offers its fall programs. It also has developed activities to keep kids' minds alert and hands active when there is a day off from school.

Coloring Book Club: In this coloring book club, participants will have the opportunity to listen to music and let their train of thoughts guide them on a colorful adventure. Using design techniques, students will also be taught to create their very own interesting coloring book pages. A variety of coloring techniques will be taught as we dive into this adventure together. This club is for children and teens age 6 to 14 years old and meets from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Saturdays, Oct. 8 to Nov. 12, at the Community Center. Registration is $45 or $68 for nonresidents.

Mixed Media: Students will have the chance to explore a variety of media through painting, drawing, collage, printing, and more in this exploratory course. Class is for children and teens age 6 to 14 years old and meets from 1:25 to 2:55 p.m. Saturdays, Oct. 8 to Nov. 12, at the Community Center. Registration is $60, or $90 for nonresidents.

Acrylic Painting: Students will love the endless opportunities this class has to offer. Students will feel like real artists as they paint on canvas and explore a variety of painting techniques. Students have the freedom of subject matter while at the same time learning the technical skills of working with acrylics. This class is for children and teens age 6 to 14 years old and meets from 3:15 to 4:35 p.m. Saturdays, Oct. 8 to Nov. 12, at the Community Center. Registration is $50 or $75 for nonresidents.

Dramatic Debut: Let your imagination run wild with the world of drama. This action-packed program explores drama through movement, imagination, group games, and story playing. Children will develop self-awareness, self-confidence, creativity, and group cooperation. This class is for children ages 3 to 4 years old and meets from 4 to 4:45 p.m. Mondays, Oct. 17 to Nov. 7, at the Community Center. Registration is $32 or $48 for nonresidents.

Dramatic Expression: This program introduces acting and beginning script reading through short plays and group games. Children will develop verbal and physical acting skills, group cooperation, and self-confidence in this fast-paced, fun environment. This class is for children ages 5 to 7 years and meets from 5 to 5:45 p.m. Mondays, Oct. 17 to Nov. 7, at the Community Center. Registration is $32 or $48 for nonresidents.

Safe Sitter Babysitting Training Course: This course will provide the information and skills necessary for safe and responsible child care in the absence of parents and guardians. Learn how to care for children, basic first aid, personal safety, injury and problem prevention, behavior management, and baby-sitting as a business. This program will include a baby-sitting manual and completion card. Please bring a baby-sized doll and lunch to each class. This course is for teens ages 11 to 15 and meets from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 15 and 16, at the Community Center. Registration is $85 or $128 for nonresidents.

Keyboard Fun: Beginners will learn to read notes and count out rhythms while enjoying the unique sounds of digital keyboards. As students progress, they will learn chords, build sight-reading skills, and enjoy playing their favorite songs. Develop better focus, concentration, and memory that leads to better success in school. Half-hour lessons are offered for children ages 6 years to adults from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 11 to Nov. 15, and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 13 to Nov. 17, at the Community Center. Registration is $108 or $162 for nonresidents for Tuesday lessons and $90 or $135 for Thursday lessons.
