Marmion-Rosary Band earns 30 medals at Wisconsin State Solo and Ensemble
The Marmion-Rosary band earned a total of 30 medals at the Wisconsin School Music Association State Solo and Ensemble Contest.
Only students that received Star performances in the Class A competition at the district level competed in the state festival, which was held at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee on Saturday, April 30.
Marmion-Rosary Band brought home 28 state gold medals.
Students who received one or more gold medals were:
• Aurora: Jared Beltz (jazz ensemble), Harrison Kearby (brass quintet and jazz ensemble), Peter Kelly (jazz ensemble), Carlos Luna (jazz ensemble), Isaac Schielble (trumpet solo and jazz ensemble), and David Tennant (jazz ensemble);
• Anna Stephens (flute solo);
• Batavia: Sam Kluber (concert snare solo, timpani solo and jazz ensemble), Lucas McDonald (alto saxophone solo and Jazz Ensemble), and Phillip Grant Swanson (jazz ensemble);
• Geneva: Michael Mehr (brass quintet);
• Oswego: Matt Lagman (concert snare solo, mallet solo and jazz ensemble);
• Sugar Grove: David Farrell (horn solo and brass quintet);
• Somonauk: Keith Mokry (jazz ensemble) and Ben Rydecki (trumpet solo, brass quintet and jazz ensemble);
• St. Charles: Edison Hurh (jazz ensemble) and Ryan Thornton (brass quintet and jazz ensemble).
The Marmion-Rosary Band also received two state silver medals. Students receiving State silver medals were Harrison Kearby (tuba solo) and Ryan Thornton (trumpet solo).
The Marmion-Rosary Band is under the direction of Stephen Thurlow and Brian Birch. Pianist Kristen Young accompanied all soloists.
