HUD grants awarded to 5 Northwest suburbs

Five Northwest suburbs and Cook County will get part of $67 million in grants being awarded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development to help develop urban communities, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin announced Tuesday. Recipients are: Cook County, $9.59 million; Palatine, $371,311; Schaumburg, $299,949; Des Plaines, $276,523; Mount Prospect, $256,919 and Hoffman Estates, $246,395. The Community Development Block Grants are awarded to help communities provide decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low and moderate income persons.
