Learn about grant writing at workshops

The Volunteer Center McHenry County offers a grant writing workshop.

Join a six-session workshop designed to cover all aspects of grant writing to help nonprofit agencies get needed funding.

Both seasoned individuals as well as those new to the field will increase their knowledge. Kathrine Violett, the presenter, has more than 25 years in the nonprofit sector with experience as a grants writer, major gifts officer, resource development specialist, division director/coordinator, and consultant. She excels in identifying and resolving challenges with original solutions, systems modification and practical enhancements proven to increase donor engagement.

They will walk through: creating user-friendly templates, a case for support, identifying goals and objectives, measurement matrix and more.

In addition, there is the opportunity to ask questions and get real answers from our panel of funders. Check-in and networking begin at 8:30 a.m. with class scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. The session dates and topics include:

• Oct. 15: "Successful Set-Up"

• Oct. 22: "Composing Collectively"

• Oct. 29: "Meet the Funders Panel"

• Nov. 5: "Submission Relevance & Completeness"

• Nov. 12: "Evaluation"

• Nov. 19: "Reporting Outcomes and Stewarding Funders."

While individual board members and staff will benefit from these sessions, having staff and board members from the same organization attend as a team will enhance the experience.

The fee for all six sessions is $64 for members and $80 for nonmembers. Individual session fees are $20 each for members and $24 each for nonmembers. Because seating is limited, early registration is suggested.

The workshop location is the McHenry County Mental Health Board, 620 Dakota St., Crystal Lake. For information and to register, contact the Volunteer Center. Call (815) 344-4483 or email info@volunteercentermchenrycounty.org.
