Sign up for 'Caring For God's Earth & People' at St. Peter

St. Peter Catholic Church in Geneva will sponsor an engaging presentation, "Caring For God's Earth & People" by David Cloutier, Ph.D. from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6.

He will help participants understand the implications of Pope Francis's encyclical "Laudato Si" ("Praise Be"). What exactly is the pope calling Catholics to do, and why?, what Catholic beliefs and doctrines are foundational for the call to care for creation; why are environmental issues so important for spiritual lives and well-being; and how is caring for creation a Catholic commitment to serve and protect the poor and vulnerable.

Cloutier is steeped in the study of Catholic moral theology, including Catholic teaching on the environment. He has achieved a Ph.D and M.A. in religion from Duke University; and a B.A. from Carleton College in chemistry and religion. He is an associate professor of theology at Mount St. Mary's University in Maryland, teaching courses in moral theology and Catholic social thought. He is the author of several books including a recent publication, "Walking God's Earth." Learn more about Cloutier at msmary.edu.

Registration is required by Wednesday, July 29. To register, provide your name, email address, phone number and number of people attending to stewardship@stpetergeneva.org, or call (630) 232-0124. St. Peter Church is at 1891 Kaneville Road in Geneva. Visit www.stpeterchurch.com.
