Pie bakers compete at annual Heritage Fair

This year's pie-baking grand champion at the McHenry County Historical Society's annual Heritage Fair was Jim Ratway of Woodstock. He also claimed first in the "other" category for his peach/blueberry entry.

He was followed, in order of finish, by Flora Breslich of Hampshire and Jean Turner of Huntley. Turner claimed first among apple pie entries, for her Topsy-Turvey offering. Jesse Garcia of Union placed second.

Finally, among berry pies, Jean Hunt of Huntley took first with her raspberry pie. Arlene Lynes of Woodstock claimed second and Kevin Schultz of Union finished third.

The 14 pies entered at the July 12 event in Union were sliced and sold to raise money for the McHenry County Historical Society.
