Gilberts Community Days part of 125th birthday bash
The village of Gilberts is hosting its fifth annual Community Days Festival May 28-31.
The four-day event is free and includes carnival rides, live entertainment, food, children's activities, magic shows, balloon twisters, and fun for the entire family at Route 72 and Center Drive. Join Gilberts' 125th Birthday Bash from 2 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
New this year on both Friday and Saturday from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. is a designated parking area at Gilberts Town Center Park, off Tyrrell and Columbia, with free shuttle service.
Windy City Amusement carnival will be open 5 to 10 p.m. Thursday, May 28, and Friday, May 29; noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 30; and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 31.
On Thursday, Universal Slim and the Blue Kangaroo will perform from 5 to 6 p.m., followed by Dreamline, a Rush tribute band, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and Pirates Over 40, a Jimmy Buffet tribute band, from 8:30 to 10 p.m.
On Friday, it will open with Hip Pockit from 5 to 7 p.m., a live broadcast of Rock the Fox 103.9 from 6 to 8 p.m., and American English, a Beatles tribute band, from 8 to 10 p.m.
On Saturday, kids can stop by Touch-a-Truck from noon to 2 p.m.; activities with Fox River Valley Public Library from noon to 4 p.m.; children's craft and activity tent from noon to 4 p.m.; petting zoo from noon to 4 p.m.; and John Measner and the Magic Truck from 1:30 to 6 p.m.
The music on Saturday will begin with Six Strings from noon to 1:30 p.m., followed by Big Ned from 2:30 to 3 p.m., Goin' South, southern rock, from 4 to 5:30 p.m., Sonic 7, classic rock, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and Modern Day Romeos from 8 to 10 p.m.
On Sunday, registration for the classic car show begins at 9 a.m. with the show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. From noon to 4 p.m., stop by the children's craft and activity tent and petting zoo from noon to 4 p.m.
On Sunday, Jimmy Nick & Don't Tell Mama will perform blues music from 12:30 to 2 p.m., followed by Pop Machine from 2:30 to 4 p.m. and country rock band Smokin' Gunz from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
