Re-enactors welcome visitors to Powers-Walker House April 19

Step back in time to the 1850s at McHenry County Conservation District's "Living History Open House" from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at Glacial Park's Powers-Walker House, Route 31 and Harts Road in Ringwood.

Join costumed re-enactors as they demonstrate seasonal activities and skills that were done in the 1850s.

April's open house will focus on the two sons from the Powers family and their contributions to the Civil War; a special presentation is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Take advantage of the first opportunity of the season to tour the historic farmhouse, which is open to the public only a handful of times a year.

"There are always changes to the house with the ongoing restoration," said Gail Brown, volunteer restoration coordinator. "This year's winter emphasis was to get the house ready for the plaquing ceremony which will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 2."
