South Main Street construction to begin in Crystal Lake

The city of Crystal Lake recently announced that construction for the South Main Street project, which will widen Main Street to a five-lane section from south of Route 14 to north of Rakow Road, is starting the week of March 23.

After this project's completion, there will be a continuous four-lane roadway between Rakow Road and Crystal Lake Avenue with improved access to area businesses. The project also includes upgraded traffic signals, drainage improvements, and illuminated street name signs.

Funding for this work was made possible, in part, through a $1.5 million grant from the federal Surface Transportation Program to cover a portion of the construction costs. The McHenry County Division of Transportation is funding the construction cost of their roadways, Virginia and Pyott roads.

Copenhaver Construction will be completing the improvement. Lane closures will be necessary at times to ensure worker and motorist safety. Pending any unforeseen weather delays, the project will be substantially complete by late November.
