Call for artists for "Art for the Paws"

Helping Paws Animal Shelter will host "Art for the Paws," a fundraiser and community outreach project for the arts in McHenry County.

People of all abilities and skill levels are encouraged to participate to create small works of art in a variety of mediums. Just 300 6-inch by 6-inch canvases will be made available to the public to create art in any subject matter, not just animal related.

The finished canvases will be mounted together to form a large mosaic which will be displayed at the Woodstock Public Library and then at "Mixin' Mingle" at the final reception in April. All artwork will be available in a "blind buy" for $25 each with all proceeds benefiting Helping Paws.

Interested individuals can obtain up to two 6- by 6-inch blank canvases for a donation of $5 each, and canvases are available from Helping Paws Animal Shelter, The Studio Art School in McHenry and Inspired Art Studio in Cary.

Completed canvases will be due back no later than 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28.

"We are seeking art of all kinds of artwork and I see these canvases as being a wonderful display of the talent within our community," said Ravelle Schwab, Helping Paws director/treasurer. "We hope to see a variety of works from professional artists, students, and recreational artists - we want to have the widest possible participation in this project/fundraiser."

Once all the artwork is collected, it will be on display as a large mosaic at the Woodstock Public Library in March and at the final reception at "Mixin' Mingle" on Saturday, April 18. The reception will be open to the general public and all donors purchasing a canvas. More details about the reception will be released in March on the Helping Paws Facebook page and website.

Sponsors are also needed to help offset costs associated with this unique fundraiser. For more information about this project or if you are interested in sponsoring, contact Ravelle Schwab at (847) 347-3867.
