McHenry police association honors 10 officers at banquet

The McHenry County Chiefs of Police Association honored 10 officers at their Officer of the Year banquet held on Jan. 17 as nominees for the 2014 Officer of the Year.

The 2014 nominees were officer Michael Carroll of the Algonquin Police Department; Sgt. Constantino Cipolla of the Woodstock Police Department; Deputy Eric Luna of the McHenry County Sheriff's Office; officer Gilbert Hueramo, officer Victoria Gwizdak, and officer Lisa Knebl of the Island Lake Police Department; officer Aaron Palmer of the Harvard Police Department; officer Chad Riffe of the Lake in the Hills Police Department; Detective Robert Roske of the McHenry City Police Department; and officer Mark Zahara of the Algonquin Police Department.

Officers Gilbert Hueramo, Victoria Gwizdak, Lisa Knebl and Deputy Eric Luna were all named the 2014 Officers of the Year.

Officer Hueramo, officer Gwizdak, officer Knebl and Deputy Luna all received this award for their courageous actions in saving the lives of two fellow McHenry County Sheriff's office deputies who had been shot in Holiday Hills on Oct. 16, 2014.

The dedication to duty displayed by all the officers was extraordinary and their commitment to law enforcement is a credit to the profession and the communities they serve.
