Library's Low-Cost Computer Classes Have Openings For December and January

Computer classes ranging from basic to advanced have January openings at the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Rd., Schaumburg. The price for Schaumburg Township residents is $12 per person per class. Non-residents pay $17, and seniors age 50 and over pay $9. Each class lasts approximately two hours, with registration and payment required prior to attending. The following classes all take place in the Adult Computer Lab on the library's second floor.

Basic classes in Windows 8, Word and Excel are scheduled for early January. The Windows 8 class is slated for 7:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 9. Participants will learn to manage files and folders, as well as install new programs and change backgrounds. Word (Level 1) will be held at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 16. Attendees will create a variety of documents, including resumes and letters. In the Excel Class (Level 1), to be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 11, participants will learn to create a spreadsheet, enter simple formulas and create a chart.

Advanced classes include Access (Level 1), which takes place at 4:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 25. This class will provide instruction on using a database management system to organize, find and present information quickly and accurately. An Excel Charts class will be held at 4:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 11. Participants will learn to create a variety of charts and customize them. Excel Data Analysis is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 18. The instructor will teach sorting, filtering and using Solver to analyze data. Attendees will also create a PivotTable and PivotChart.

Other classes taking place in January will cover the subjects of creating websites, using Photoshop, PowerPoint and desktop publishing. A full list of classes is listed in the December-January Program Guide, which is mailed to Schaumburg Township residents and available in the library or at www.schaumburglibrary.org.
