McHenry County College hosts open house Nov. 12

High school students, parents and community members are invited to the 10th annual MCC Night, an open house, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12.

All prospective adult students, as well as high school juniors, seniors and their parents are encouraged to attend the event, along with anyone from the community who would like to learn more about McHenry County College. The event takes place in the Commons area in Building B, 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.

MCC Night is the community's opportunity to learn more about what McHenry County College has to offer in financial aid support, college classes for high school students, scholarships, accessing disability services and student activities, as well as meet instructors and collect information about the 40-plus college programs and the various degree opportunities. Workshop highlights include choosing a major, the college transfer process and support services at college.

Featured programs include culinary management, nursing, graphic arts, robotics and a variety of transfer degree programs, along with culinary, automotive, art and science demonstrations. In addition, current high school students can hear about MCC's High School Plus program for earning college credit while still in high school.

"MCC students do as well as or better than non-transfer students at Illinois state universities," said Kellie Carper, supervisor of New Student Transitions. "MCC Night is an excellent opportunity to find out what MCC has to offer and get your need-to-know information in just one night. Come check out your community college."

MCC Night is free and open to the public. No registration is required. During this event only, the application fee will be waived for all high school seniors and prospective adult students who apply to MCC on-site for the summer and fall 2015 semesters.
