Church youth make school kits for charity

The youth at the Congregational Church of Algonquin recently made bags for Church World Service.

In August, the church received word that Church World Service was in desperate need of school kits.

They set a goal of 35 bags, and applied for and received a $250 grant from the United Church of Christ from funds that were set aside for this program.

Then they sent out a plea to the congregation for bags and the list that was provided by Church World Service.

The congregation held sewing parties and brought in the necessary supplies. Most of the bags were filled by the church youth.

It provided a great teaching opportunity about the children that were to receive these bags.

So far, they have delivered 35 completed bags and they may soon double that number. Sally Cope reports that "it has been a great learning experience for all of us."
