Schaumburg Receives Distinguished Budget Presentation Award

The Village of Schaumburg announced it has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.

"I am proud to receive this award on behalf of the village and our budget team," Director of Finance Lisa Happ said. "Our budget is the financial roadmap for our village, and this award reaffirms Schaumburg's commitment in making information contained in our fiscal plans transparent and accessible to the public."

To receive the significant achievement, Schaumburg satisfied nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. The guidelines assess how well an organization's budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device. Budget documents must achieve a proficiency rating in all four categories, including 14 mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.

"This is a tremendous credit to Schaumburg's staff who has worked diligently to compile a budget document that provides the highest standard of financial information to the Village of Schaumburg," Village Manager Brian Townsend said.

One thousand four hundred and twenty-five participants received the award for budgets beginning in 2013. Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a major professional association servicing the needs of more than 18,000 appointed and elected local, state and provincial-level government officials and other finance practitioners. The association's headquarters is based in Chicago with offices in Washington D.C. The Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
