Rolling Meadows woman became a world Tai Chi Champion

Songmei Li, a Rolling Meadows resident, became a Tai Chi world champion at the 2014 International Chinese Martial Arts (Wushu) Championship, held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Pheasant Run Resort, St. Charles, Illinois. Songmei won one gold medal in empty handed Tai Chi form and two silver medals in Forms and Weapons, competing with over 100 Wushu athletes from around the globe.

Songmei has been practicing both internal and external Chinese martial arts at Soaring Eagle Kung Fu school in Palatine since Dec. 2011. She is very dedicated to her training, and trains every day. Her coaches Master Kaifei Song, Master Min Ma, and Master Lincai Shi are three top-ranked Kung Fu masters in the Chicago region. This was Songmei's first competition.
