It's all about outdoors at Saturday festival in Cary

Celebrate the fall season with McHenry County Conservation District during "Outdoor Fest! - A Celebration of Green Healthy Living" from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Fel-Pro RRR Conservation Area, 1520 Crystal Lake Road, Cary.

Come out for a pickup game of basketball or bags, take a disc golf lesson or a fly fishing clinic, search out a geocache or two, and stay for the food and enjoy live music. Visit with exhibitors for the latest in outdoor recreation equipment to ways to live a more environmentally-friendly life.

The music stage will feature local musician Jeff Trudell playing acoustic rock favorites from 3 to 4:30 p.m., and the headliner Miles Over Mountains, an acoustic bluegrass/roots/Americana band from McHenry, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Kapital Electric, a solar energy company for residential use, will display a solar panel and an electric vehicle charger. Other participating exhibitors include: Crystal Lake's Akasha Yoga (yoga and meditation); Lake in the Hills' Alpine Accessories; Environmental Defenders of McHenry County; Woodstock's Food Shed Co-op; Friends of Moraine Hills State Park; Friends of the Fox River; Friends of Volo Bog; Richmond's Green Earth Farm; LL Bean; McHenry County College Sustainability Center; McHenry County Bicycle Advocates; Algonquin's Paper or Plastic Sports (disc golf); Lake in the Hills' Tom's Rain Barrels; Chicago's Working Bikes; and the Wildflower Preservation and Propagation Committee. Food and beverages provided by MJ's Coffee Bar of McHenry.

Do a "green thing" and donate your old bike in the Bike Drive. Working Bikes is a 501(c) 3, nonprofit that donates 6,000 used bicycles each year to humanitarian organizations around the world. Bicycles are life-changing tools. With a bicycle, people in underserved communities gain access to education, jobs, and health care that might otherwise be inaccessible.
