Attend jazz, choral concerts at MCC

McHenry County College will host two more concerts this month, including a jazz concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, and an MCC Band and Chorus spring concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 27. All concerts will take place in the Luecht Conference Center at MCC, 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.

On April 23, the MCC Jazz Ensemble returns for their spring concert and is directed by Michael Bazan.

On April 27 at 3 p.m., the MCC Chorus, under the direction of Steve Szalaj, will include the MCC Vocal Ensemble performing "Good Old Acapella" by L. Carter and O. Nevada; "Longest Time" and "And So it Goes," both by Billy Joel.

The MCC Chorus selections will include "Ich will den Herrn loben alle Zeit" by Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767); "The Lass From the Low Countree" by John Jacob Niles (1892-1980); "Can You Hear" by James Papoulis with soloist Paul Soulard; and "Bridge Over Troubled Water" by Paul Simon.

In addition, the MCC Concert Band, under the direction of Paige Lush, Ph.D., will perform a variety of selections, including "Flourish for Wind Band," by Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958); "Nimrod" from Enigma Variations by Edward Elgar (1857-1934); "Pageant by Vincent Persichetti" (1915-1987); "Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral" from Lohengrin by Richard Wagner (1813-1883); and "Eine Kleine Yiddishe Ragmusik" by Adam Gorb (1958- ).
