The McHenry County Jewish Congregation will be celebrating Passover and the 100th anniversary of its building and 35th of its congregation in the coming weeks. All who are interested are welcome to take part.

From 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, MCJC will be hosting a community Seder, or meal, in observance of the second night of Passover. The story of the flight of the Jews from slavery in Egypt is told each year, rich with tradition, symbolism, food and song. Members of the community are welcome to attend. The cost is $20 per adult and $10 per child, or $60 maximum per family. Reservations should be made by Tuesday, April 1, by calling MCJC at (815) 455-1810 or emailing mcjcoffice@yahoo.com.

The weekend of April 25-27, MCJC will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of its building and the 35th anniversary of the congregation. In addition to other events, at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 26, MCJC will celebrate its 35th anniversary with remarks by founding and current members, a silent auction, and refreshments.

On Sunday, April 27, from noon to 4 p.m., MCJC will open its doors to the Crystal Lake community in celebration of the 100th birthday of its building, the former Ridgefield School District 48 building.

In addition to offering tours of the building, MCJC will have a panel speaking from 1 to 2 p.m. about the history of the building and rural schools in McHenry County. There is no charge for the event, and all who attended the Ridgefield School or have an interest in historic schools are invited to attend.

MCJC holds Shabbat services at 6:30 p.m. Fridays and 9:30 a.m. Saturdays. Rabbi Maralee Gordon leads services. MCJC is a community synagogue that serves Jews of all backgrounds. Interfaith families are welcome. They also operate a gift shop offering a range of Judaica items. It is on Ridgefield Road in unincorporated Crystal Lake, accessible from Route 14.

For information on the congregation or any of its events or educational programs, call (815) 455-1810 or visit mcjc-online.org.
