Teen bands to perform at Palatine’s Mac’s On Slade Feb. 7

The second annual Acts @ Mac’s teen band night will be presented by Palatine Park District at 7 p.m. on Feb. 7, at Mac’s On Slade, 117 W. Slade St., Palatine. Three bands have been selected to perform:

Why Should I?: Liam Bachmann (guitar and vocals), Gage Bachmann (bass guitar), Max Murphy (drums), Zach Szczupaj (guitar and vocals).

This band’s style is punk rock and alternative rock. They play covers of Weezer, Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins, The Ramones, and Nirvana in addition to some of their own original music.

The band was started during their sixth grade year at Paddock Elementary School. Their first big gig was the Palatine Art Show in downtown Palatine. Since then they have played several other shows including playing at their school during open mic lunches.

Their goals for the future include expanding beyond playing cover songs and playing more of their original music.

Nothing Yet: Brad Kolar (guitar and vocals), Tom Schneider (guitar), Dean Roehrborn (bass), Jake VanWolvelear (keyboard), Dean Kolar (drums).

Nothing Yet was formed from the common interest of making music in the basement of a Winston Park house. Most were members of the jazz band and have grown up together. The band has been together over three years with the goal of having a good time.

Nothing Yet covers songs from the ’60s through today.

Future goals include playing again at Streetfest and other local events this summer.

Elementary: Zachary Keller (hand drums and vocal), Jesse Dever (guitar and vocal), Kevin Gallagher (guitar and vocal), Erin Leahy (vocals).

Elementary is an acoustic folk rock band. The three boys have been best friends since third grade and thus the band’s name “Elementary.”

Erin recently joined the band and all of the members are involved in the Lake Zurich High School choir.

Admission to the event is free, but tickets are required and seating is very limited. Advance tickets can be obtained from the bands. Tickets will be available at the door only if space allows.
