Schaumburg library to host flea, craft market, green fair

Creative, beautiful, unique and inspired. These are the types of items you will find at the upcoming Craft Fair and Flea Market on Saturday, Nov. 9; and the Environmental Fair on Saturday, Nov. 16, both taking place at the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Road. No registration or fee is required for either event, and all ages are welcome.

If you are looking for great “gently used” treasures and/or lovely handmade items to use as gifts or keep for yourself, the Craft Fair and Flea Market in the library’s Rasmussen Room is the perfect venue. Open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., this event features a combination of items you might see at a flea market or garage sale, along with distinctive handmade items created by crafters and artists.

Flea market items will include holiday decorations, small household appliances, books and movies, clothing, toys, video games and much more.

Craft Fair items will include jewelry, baby blankets, handbags, note cards, photography, and other artistic creations. Cashiers will take cash and checks only at this event.

If you would like to learn more about living “green,” or simply enjoy browsing through some nature-related products, The Environmental Fair is for you. In the lobby you’ll find tables hosted by organizations and individuals who are either selling products or providing information about resources and services.

Additionally, there will be presentations throughout the day on home, energy and nature that will fall into two tracks targeting environmental strategies for inside and outside your living space.

Presentations will take place in the Rasmussen Rooms on the library’s second floor and include:

Steppingstones to Greening Your Home, at noon. Learn how to green your home without breaking the bank.

Recycling, at noon. Discover how your recyclables are sorted and where they go.

Indoor Air Quality for the Home, 1 p.m. Learn to create healthier indoor environments with plants, furniture, wall coverings and more.

Tips and Tricks for Green Living, 1 p.m. Find out what it means to live a “green” lifestyle, including transportation, home and diet.

Energy Efficiency for your Home, 2 p.m. Discover products that protect plants from heavy frosts and learn to build a garden “cold frame.”

Where Nature Comes Home, 2:30 p.m. Transform your lawn into an unfolding range of colorful native prairie plants and rain gardens.

Green Cleaning at Home, 3 p.m. Learn how to make green homemade cleaning products.

In addition to the lobby tables and seminars, the library will show some family-friendly movies in the Audiovisual Department. Come and see “March of the Penguins” at 11 a.m. and “Free Willy” at 2 p.m.

So there you have it; shopping, learning opportunities and entertainment, all within the walls of the Schaumburg Township District Library!
