Libertyville wins girls golf opener

Libertyville's girls golf team carded a victory in its season opener Tuesday.

Jess Lovinger fired a 41 to earn medalist honors and lead the Wildcats (173) to a comfortable win over host Elk Grove (202) at Fox Run Golf Links.

Libertyville also received 43s from Emma Hoskins and freshman Megan Sturonas. Freshman Simone Mikaelian added a 46 for the Wildcats.

"We have a young team but showed a lot of experience and poise today," Libertyville coach Greg Pedersen said.

Mundelein d. Hoffman Estates: At Countryside, Cristina Loverde and Courtney Fabbri shot a 41 and 42, respectively, to lead the host Mustangs (190) to a season-opening win over the Hawks (217).

Shannon Streeter (53) and Lorrielle Martin (54) completed Mundelein's scoring.

Boys golf

Glenbard North invite: At Glendale Lakes, Vernon Hills freshman Justin Park shot a 77 to place fifth and lead the Cougars, who finished third out of five teams.
