Submitted by Cary Grove AMVETS

Cary Grove AMVETS Pearl Harbor Memorial Post 245 will host its 26th annual picnic Wednesday, June 26, at Lions Park, 102 Beachway Drive, in Fox River Grove, for hospitalized veterans in memory of Chris Chigas.

Veterans from four different VA hospitals will be attending. Approximately 500 veterans from James Lovell in North Chicago, Edward Hines in Hines, Jessie Brown in Chicago, and Woods in Milwaukee, Wis., will be bused to Lions Park.

Setup will be at 9 a.m. and veterans will arrive about 11 a.m. There will be food, soda, music, bingo, games, pontoon boat rides, and camaraderie. This is the largest picnic held in Illinois for veterans.

Everyone is welcome. Community volunteers and past vets are welcome to attend and say thank you to a veteran.

If interested, call Bob Janu at (847) 639-4587. Donations would be appreciated and can be made to AMVETS Post 245, P.O. Box 741 Cary, IL 60013. These donations will allow the post to help other veterans. For information, call post commander Gary Foster at (847) 639-3936 or visit www.ilamvets.org/events_upcoming.cfm.
