Local Woman Receives Soroptimist Grant

Ava Socik of Niles received the Virginia M. Wagner Educational Grant and check at the 24th Annual Soroptimist International of Suburban Chicago Awards Reception on May 18th. The Award was presented by Club President, Diane Kegley. This is Soroptimist International Midwestern Region's grant that honors the academic success and effort of a woman attending a college or university to earn a bachelors, masters, or doctoral degree. Ava earned her BA in Psychology at Yale University and is currently attending Rush University – Medical College. While pursuing her dream to become a physician, she has given back to the community by using her time, talents and experiences to benefit local organizations such as the Community Health Clinic of Chicago and Miracle League of Chicago. Ava would like to pursue a combination of primary care and public health.

Soroptimist International is a volunteer organization of business and professional women dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world. The organization includes over 90,000 members in more than 120 countries and territories who contribute time and financial support to community-based projects that benefit women. In addition to the Virginia M. Wagner Educational Grant, Soroptimist International of Suburban Chicago has three other grants for women and girls.
