Hersey handles Waukegan

Hersey had little trouble advancing in the Class 3A girls soccer postseason.

The Huskies had 5 goals by the half on the way to a 7-0 victory over Waukegan in regional semifinal play Tuesday at Hersey.

Casey Weyhrich had 3 goals and Lauren Gierman had 2 for the Huskies (12-4-5).

Morgan Harris made 1 stop to earn her 11th shutout of the season, and Amy Kappelman and Sarah Magnuson had single goals.

Hersey advanced to regional final play against Stevenson, which got goals from Jenna Weiner and Megan Patrick in a 2-1 victory over Highland Park.

• Palatine ousted Prospect in regional semifinal play at Warren, delivering a 2-1 win in double overtime. The Pirates meet Glenbrook South, which eliminated the host Blue Devils, in the regional championship round Friday.

• Carmel advanced in regional play at Fremd by shutting out Rolling Meadows 5-0. They Corsairs will meet the winner of Tuesday's Fremd vs. Glenbrook North game on Friday at Fremd.

• Mid-Suburban East champion Buffalo Grove cruised past Zion-Benton 9-0 and will Mundelein in the regional championship round Friday at Libertyville. The Mustangs eliminated the Wildcats 1-0.

• Regional host Evanston eliminated Maine West 3-0 and will meet Lane, a 9-0 winner against Lincoln Park, for a regional championship Friday.
