FT Cares, the charitable wing of First Trust, a financial services firm in Wheaton Illinois has made a donation to serve local seniors in need, collecting several items including pillows, towels, silverware, and coffee makers. These items will be delivered to the 121 impoverished seniors served by the Humanitarian Service Project (HSP,) of DuPage County. Through HSP's Senior Citizen Project, these needy seniors receive nutritional groceries to help them combat hunger, as well as numerous other items to help improve their quality of life, like these items donated by FT Cares.

Lisa Weier, an employee of First Trust and a representative of the foundation, said that First Trust has recently received their 501(c) 3 charitable status, and the decision to support HSP's seniors with this donation is part of their effort to expand their service to those in need throughout the area. FT Cares plans to do so by continuing their support of HSP, but also engaging in service projects and other donations to support more local non-profits.

The 121 impoverished seniors in HSP's Senior Citizen Project receive monthly deliveries of 100 lbs. of groceries, which also include personal care items and paper products (paper towels, facial tissue, and toilet paper.) The seniors also receive a monthly "Secret Pal" gift, gifts at Christmas time, and much needed household items on their "wishlist." These seniors are sponsored in this program, by local groups or individuals, for $800 a year.
