Cub Scout Pack 140 Creates Happy Holidays

Cub Scout Pack 140, out of Saint Mary Parish, had the privilege of hearing from Petty Officer First Class Andrew Westwood, stationed at Great Lakes Naval Base and Champlain Bruce Peters. Over 50 cub scouts and many family members attended the November Pack meeting. The focus of the meeting was on saying “Thank You” and creating care packages for our service men & women still overseas.

Petty Officer Westwood spoke to the boys about serving in the navy, his time spent in Afghanistan, living on a submarine and his current teaching position at Great Lakes. The scouts were curious about why he chose the navy, how much time he spent underwater on a submarine, and what types of guns he had used. Petty Officer Westwood answered all the scout's questions. He even answered questions from some parents.

The scouts put together over 70 care packages. Petty Officer Westwood told the scouts how much it means to receive a care package when stationed overseas. He told the scouts that little things we take for granted each day like toothpaste, candy and 3 meals a day are luxuries when serving abroad. The care packages the scouts made included a thank you holiday card signed by a scout, dry food items, drink mixes, candy, toiletries, and magazines. The care packages, sent through the USO, will arrive overseas just before Christmas.
